AI & Digital Art

"Stay hungry. Stay foolish." - Steve Jobs. As a former illustrator, I’m especially fascinated by the intersection of AI, compositing, and digital painting as a means of bringing vision to life. In this new creative era, I believe we have a responsibility to explore emerging tools—not with fear, but with curiosity. Below are a few personal projects where I’ve been experimenting with AI as part of my process, rediscovering both new workflows and my inner fantasy nerd along the way. Metal Mantra - The Dream
This one I went with more dark fantasy 80's metal vibes overall. (yes I listened to metal while I worked on it) I started working with LoRA stacks in ComfyUI, so I could get the exact style I wanted. Then cut up the pieces that were working, composited them together and then painted into the scene and typeset the mantra. I admit its not the most legible typeface, but I thought it was pretty and had the right vibes, and this is art - not advertising. So I am allowing it.

"Another tomorrow, remember to walk into the light" - Iron Maiden
Fairy Queen
I had a failed image generation of a 17th century woman in a powdered wig while learning the AI generative tool ComfyUI with Flux Dev as the checkpoint. I thought there was something beautiful about taking a "failure" from the learning process and turning it into something beautiful, so I applied some comping and digital mixed media and manual painting to create a fantasy art piece that contemplates mood and light.
Vampire femme
For this piece, there was no AI involved in the final output, rather I was inspired by an AI pose I saw online, and decided to build up texture and color to create something ominous and narrative. After years using a Cintiq to draw and paint on, I was eager to try out the different brushes available in Adobe Fresco and experience digital painting on my iPad.
Devil Card
I was inspired by the Devil card in the Tarot deck, and wanted to do a beautiful and serene interpretation. I experimented with GhatGPT4o image generation upgrade and its ability to generate the same thing with small area's changed through its chat interface. However, each generation was still slightly different, but close enough that I combined about five elements of the best versions in photoshop with some manual comping to get something VERY close to my original vision.
